Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner to appear alongside in One Night Only, details explored

Think of The Purge movies. Now replace criminal acts with premarital sex, and you will get the upcoming Will Gluck film called One Night Only. According to Deadline, the film will arrive in August next year, and Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown) and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts franchise) are set to act in it.

Gluck has directed a number of films, usually romantic comedies, that include Friends with Benefits (2011), About Last Night (2014), Anyone but You (2023), and more. Details on the film's plot are unknown at the moment, but Deadline gave a gist about it. The article mentions,

"The draft follows two strangers who scramble to find someone to sleep with on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal."

If you have watched The Purge films, it follows a similar concept. For one night every year, everything criminal is legal, from rapes to murders, and the culprits won't be punished for doing anything.

Though we can't say One Night Only will be anything sinister like this, given Will Gluck's history of filmmaking, it is more likely another romantic comedy. And who knows, these two characters seeking the one-night stand may end up falling in love. That ought to make things interesting.

The upcoming Will Gluck film topped the 2024 Black List, written by Travis Braun. There's no way to tell if Gluck is planning to do justice to the story or add his own spin on this. Even if he does that, chances of it being a success are high, considering his films, given his recent commercial success with Anyone but You.

Monica Barbaro gave a heartfelt performance in the recent biographical film A Complete Unknown (2024) as American singer Joan Baez alongside Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan. She also became a viral sensation in a short called It's Not About the Nail. Both roles showcased different aspects of her talent.

She also appears in the blockbuster sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. In it, Tom Cruise plays the titular Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a flight instructor and test pilot. The film made $1.5 billion at the global box office.

In addition to that, she has also appeared in films including The Cathedral (2021), I'm Charlie Walker (2022), and At Midnight (2023). She's also working on a couple of projects called Crime 101, a crime film, and Artificial, a biographical comedy.

About Callum Turner, he has appeared in all the Fantastic Beasts films as Theseus Scamander, the older brother of Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne. He also played an English assassin in the film adaptation of one of the finest video games ever made, Assassin's Creed. Interestingly, the lead character's name in it is Callum, whom the talented Michael Fassbender portrays.

Other than that, the actor has also worked in movies like Victor Frankenstein (2015), The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021), Eternity (2025), and more.
