James Gunn's Superman is leading the franchise on an optimistic note by presenting a hero who truly feels like a beacon of hope. This bright and beautiful film is helping Warner Bros. gain momentum at the box office for their DC studio offerings. The project introduces new faces and brings back some old ones from Gunn's previous feature films.

Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, and John Cena are only some of these stars who make cameo appearances in the new film. Apart from them, Bradley Cooper briefly appears on the screen as Kal-El's Kryptonian father, Jor-El. When asked about this special casting choice, Gunn told Deadline,

“Well, Bradley’s a friend of mine, and I needed somebody who could play Jor-El — and I don’t think this is a spoiler, everybody knows about this — who had the stature of what we imagine that character being, somebody who could walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando.”

The Godfather star played Superman's father in the 1978 film, which starred Christopher Reeve as the Kryptonian hero. Gunn believed Cooper had the stature required to play this iconic role. He also had a few more reasons for considering Cooper an ideal choice to follow in the footsteps of Brando.

“A lot of times, Jor-El is played by a 70-year-old man, and that means he was 70 when he had a baby, so I wanted somebody that wasn’t too old. Everyone was bringing up all these actors that were too old for me. I think Bradley was perfect, he did it for me as a favor because he’s my friend, and I really appreciated him doing it.”

The 50-year-old star previously voiced Rocket Raccoon in Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films. So, the new DC film marks his collaboration with Gunn.

Bradley Cooper plays Jor-El, a character integral to Superman's story. He appears briefly in a video sent from Krypton, where he and his wife, Lara (Angela Sarafyan). Their hologram message reveals why Kal-El was sent to Earth. However, Lex Luthor uses the Engineer's powers to misguide people about Kal-El's intentions, putting him in trouble.

Besides Cooper, the House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock briefly appears as Kal-El's family member, his Kryptonian cousin, Kara Zor-el, aka Supergirl. She will later star in the leading role in the upcoming movie, written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie.

John Cena also appears as Peacemaker, reprising his role from Gunn's action comedy series on HBO Max. Joining Cooper as the GOTG alumni in cameos are Pom Klementieff and Michael Rooker, who play two of the robots in the hero's Fortress of Solitude. Sean Gunn stars as Maxwell Lord, the billionaire behind the super-trio of Justice Gang.

Other cameos with previous Superman connections include Michael Rosenbaum and Christopher Reeve's son, Will Reeve. Rosenbaum, who previously starred as Lex Luthor, now plays one of his raptors while Reeve plays a news reporter for GBS.
