James Bond is a franchise that has been growing for several decades. It started out with British author Ian Fleming, who wrote a series of novels. They were eventually adapted into films like Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Casino Royale, among others.

Netflix subscribers will be surprised to find out that they will get to see several James Bond films, as the streamer has struck a deal with Amazon MGM. So let’s get into the details of this deal. It is interesting to note that Netflix and Amazon are competitors in the streaming space, so it will be worth seeing how things pan out.

Netflix to stream James Bond films after deal with Amazon MGM

Netflix has struck a deal with Amazon MGM Studios to stream James Bond films. This set of spy films will start dropping on the streamer in January next year. Beginning January 15, Netflix subscribers in the United States, France, Germany, Latin America, and other regions will get to see these films.

They will include titles like Skyfall, No Time to Die, Quantum of Solace, and Die Another Day. These will be available for three months. Several other films that are now owned by Amazon will also drop on Netflix. This includes titles like Creed and Rocky.

Chris Ottinger, who is the Head of Worldwide Distribution at Amazon MGM Studios, issued a statement. He said,

“When Amazon acquired MGM, Amazon’s plan was to continue licensing MGM’s iconic library to streaming and television partners around the world. Bringing these iconic films and shows to Netflix is part of that continued strategy. James Bond remains one of the most enduring and influential franchises in cinematic history, and alongside other beloved titles in our library like Hunters among other series, this agreement reflects the continued global appetite for premium storytelling and the strong working relationship we’ve built with Netflix.”

The James Bond films annually stream on Amazon Prime Video for two months around October. MGM+ also streams the films between October and December. Amazon MGM Studios bought the franchise rights for $20 million from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, its producers. The trio will be the owners of its intellectual property.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve had been hired as the new director. The Netflix news might help keep up the excitement as fans wait for Denis’ version of the film.

In an official statement, he said:

“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen."

The makers are looking for an actor to portray the 007 agent.
