The new Fantastic Four: First Steps clip seemingly confirms a fan theory about why Galactus comes to the Earth. It reveals what the mighty supervillain truly wants from the First Family.

Based on the clip shared on July 14, 2025, the planet-eating behemoth, Galactus, will arrive on Earth for Sue Storm and Reed Richards' baby. In this clip, Reed Richards addresses the press and notes that Galactus asked "too high a price," referring to his and Sue's baby. As a result, Reed can neither confirm nor deny that everyone will be safe.

In the comics, the baby is named Franklin Richards. As a child of two heroes, Franklin holds immense powers that Galactus either wants to seize control over or to stop to maintain a cosmic balance.

The new clip doesn't reveal why Galactus wants Reed and Susan's baby. Yet, it indicates the cosmic entity's intention behind posing a threat. His presence will likely put Sue and Reed in a predicament between protecting their family and protecting the planet. Will they manage to protect both? We'll find out the answer when the film drops in theaters.

What do we know about Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps so far?

Reed Richards and Susan Storm will start a family for the first time in the MCU with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. They will be joined by Ben Grimm and Susan's brother, Johnny, who will also need to strike a balance between protecting themselves and protecting the Earth. As revealed before, they will face the threat of Galactus, the gigantic Devourer of Worlds.

Marvel Studios has not shared much information about this character and its appearance in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Until now, we have only seen him casting a massive shadow over a city. It offered a sense of his scale and how it relates to the Earth. Otherwise, we see his large helmet from behind. The recent clips have offered a glimpse of his blue and robust metallic armor. So, the fans may have to wait for the film to see how he looks in the final cut.

What challenges does Reed Richards face because of Galactus?

Reed Richards becomes Mister Fantastic for his planet, as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman gives birth to their child. So, one of their biggest challenges is how to destroy Galactus' threat while ensuring their newborn is safe and secure.

The comics offer a few more details about the challenges in his further journey after his climactic battle with the cosmic being. However, until then, Sue and Reed would be protective of their child from Galactus and the Silver Surfer.

Pedro Pascal is taking over the role of Mister Fantastic, previously played by Miles Teller (in the 2015 project) and Ioan Gruffudd (in the 2005 and 2007 projects). Vanessa Kirby is joining Pascal as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.

The Ozark star Julia Garner is playing Shalla-Bal, the female Silver Surfer. Ralph Ineson is portraying Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser is reportedly playing Mole Man (Harvey Elder).
