Cynthia Erivo's new look as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good has just dropped, and this exclusive look from Empire gives us a peek into the sequel as Erivo's character stands on the Yellow Brick Road. She is dressed in her signature dark gown with flowing sleeves, all green, and with her broom. Surrounding her is what looks like a swamp, giving the image an eerie vibe overall, which fits the vision for the sequel.
Erivo received much appreciation for her role in the first film, and with the release date of the sequel around the corner, fans are already hyped up for what Elphaba will bring in the next film.
In the interview where the new look was revealed, director Jon M. Chu told Empire about Elphaba's role and stated,
“The stakes are higher than ever for Elphaba. She’s fighting to expose the Wizard, but she’s alone in that. Can one person actually make a difference? She’s up against the Wizard’s propaganda, calling her the Wicked Witch, talking about how her skin is green and her soul is impure. What happens when the home you believed in doesn’t want you anymore? Is it worth defending? Why stay?”
Talking about the sequel, Chu added,
“I love that people get to see the full masterplan, and the full scope of what Cynthia and Ariana do in this movie. I’m so happy they were appreciated in the first one, but movie two is where the meat comes out.”
More details about Wicked: For Good
After Jon M. Chu left us dangling with Cynthia Erivo belting Defying Gravity, the second film, Wicked: For Good, is flying in to answer the question we’ve all been screaming: what happens after the broom takes off?
This sequel isn’t playing it safe. Elphaba is fully stepping into her so-called “wicked” era, ready to dismantle the Wizard’s lies with the kind of green-fueled rage that only Broadway witches can deliver. On the other side, Ariana Grande’s Glinda is left holding the weight of Oz on her sparkly shoulders, forced to pick between protecting her image and saving her friend. It’s heartbreak wrapped in glitter, with enough tension to power all of Emerald City.
Last year’s Wicked already had everyone obsessed with Cynthia Erivo's take on the so-called “wicked” witch, but this sneak peek for Wicked: For Good feels bigger, bolder, and way more powerful. This next chapter is all about fallout and friendship, her complicated bond with Ariana Grande’s Glinda, the politics of Oz, and a story that’s inching closer to Dorothy finally entering the picture. The cast is stacked too, with Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode all returning.
Wicked: For Good will be in theaters on November 21, 2025.
