Ryan Gosling is gearing up for a thrilling round of sci-fi takeover with his upcoming films. He is already starring in the Star Wars universe with Shawn Levy’s upcoming project Starfighter, which hits screens on May 28, 2027.

However, another sci-fi brilliance just entered screens and made all eyes turn to Amazon MGM studios. The studio dropped the second official look at Gosling’s 2026 sci-fi stunner Project Hail Mary. The first trailer already made a buzz, hinting at a high-stakes space adventure.

Gosling's sci-fi project is expected to land in theaters on March 20, next year, and the second trailer cements the film as one of next year’s most anticipated releases.

The film is based on the 2021 book by Andy Weir of the same name. The film follows the book's structural arrangement, with a dual narrative. The timeline, therefore, is split.

One timeline follows Grace in space as he pieces together his identity and mission-related details, and the other unfolds on Earth, where he collaborates with the global scientific community to investigate “astrophage.” This organism is affecting the sun, leading to extinction.

These narrative threads connect when Grace discovers Rocky, who appears in full for the first time in the newly launched trailer.

The cast consists of Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt, the determined figure coordinating the mission from Earth, and Liz Kingsman as Annie Shapiro. A stellar supporting cast fills out the ensemble, bringing Weir’s world of the global scientific community to life on screen.

In the trailer, Gosling carried a slightly different appearance than in his previous roles (round spectacles and a fitting hairstyle) as a scientist. The trailer captures the urgency of the threat that signals humanity's catastrophic end. Image of a deteriorating Sun instantly catches attention, while Gosling's dialogues bring attention to the protagonist.

Eva Stratt is seen explaining the dire situation that the scientific community, vis-à-vis entire humanity, is heading toward:

"If we do nothing, everything on this planet will go extinct"

The first trailer gained 400 million views. Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed the film, while Drew Goddard wrote the script. Goddard is not new to Weir's thrilling sci-fi world, having previously written the feature film The Martian.

Hopes are high for the latest Amazon MGM title, led by Ryan Gosling, due to its timing. Just a few months into 2025's curtain call, the second trailer made sci-fi fans have something to look forward to in 2026.

In the trailer, viewers also get a sense of visual brilliance that will probably leave a mark on theater audiences. We see multiple breathtaking scenes, some ornate with nothing but the magnificent play of light and shadow.

Noticeably, the first scene when Grace speaks to Rocky is a scene that many can look forward to. The background score adds layers of gravity to the scene (even though Grace is in space).

As audiences wait to see how the adaptation handles the novel’s most anticipated moments, starting from Ryland Grace and Rocky's alliance to the adventures and looming catastrophe, the film is already carving out serious momentum with teases.

With Gosling leading the charge and a strong creative team behind him, the countdown to launch has officially begun.
