Tory Lanez sat down with NBC for his first-ever on-camera interview since his conviction. Lanez, in the interview, reflected on his legal battle with Megan Thee Stallion and mentioned that he is in a period of growth and reflection.

Tory Lanez has maintained his innocence despite spending three years in prison for his 10-year sentence. Lanez also alleged that new evidence has surfaced since the trial concluded, while claiming that he was "wrongfully convicted." When asked about his mental health behind bars, Lanez said,

"Truthfully I've done my best to keep my head above water, but mentally I've gone through trauma that I sometimes struggle with. Because I've never imagined myself dealing with things I never had to deal with. I was stabbed 17 times, I almost lost my life."

Lanez also mentioned that the public misconception about him is concerning.

"There is definitely a very big misconception about me. It seems to the public that I'm this monster. I was catapulted into this poster child for the un-protection of black women. And it's just so unlike me. I've never really had a chance to express that. You can look at my criminal record, I don't have one. I've never had one. That connotation that I would do anything of this monstrous proportion is completely incorrect and it's wrong."

More about Tory Lanez's new allegations about the 2022 trial

Megan Thee Stallion earlier testified that Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, shot her in the foot in a July 2020 altercation. According to the court documents obtained by multiple media outlets, Lanez, along with Stallion and others, were leaving a party hosted by Kylie Jenner in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles when the altercation took place.

Tory Lanez's attorney is now alleging that records in the artist's civil defamation suit revealed that several evidence were never turned over during Lanez's 2022 shooting trial. While speaking to NBC about the alleged new evidence, Lanez said,

"I believe not only that I was wrongfully convicted, but the amount of new evidence that has emerged since that trial, I think , has been overwhelming."

Lanez's interview with NBC comes after Megan Thee Stallion won a defamation lawsuit against Milagro Gramz/Cooper. Stallion had accused Gramz of being Lanez's "mouthpiece" and making false claims about her online. Milagro Gramz, who is a blogger, was further restricted from making disparaging comments about the artist by the jury.
