A final trailer is all set to be released ahead of Wicked: For Good's release in November, giving us our last glimpses at Elphaba and Glinda before we catch them at the theaters for the film's sequel. Both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have announced through social media that the trailer will be dropping on Wednesday, September 24.
The highly anticipated sequel to Jon M. Chu's Wicked continues the spellbinding take on friendship, power and destiny in the Land of Oz. Based on the second act of the beloved 2003 Broadway musical, Wicked: For Good is all set to reunite Elphaba and Glinda for a final showdown.
According to the film's official site, Wicked: For Good will be based on Elphaba, who is now being called The Wicked Witch of the West, as she lives in exile in the Ozian forest. Desperate to show the Wizard's true colors, Elphaba will continue her fight for Oz's silenced Animals.
Glinda, on the other hand, is basking in fame and glamor as she becomes the symbol of Goodness in Oz. But beneath the fame and the joy, she is haunted by the thoughts of Elphaba and before anything else happens, their stories are intruded upon by a girl from Kansas, changing the narrative and their lives.
The cast reunites Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, joined by Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Hawke, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. Directed once again by Chu, Wicked: For Good is all set to release on November 21, 2025.
Everything you need to know about Wicked before you watch Wicked: For Good
The first film Wicked follows Glinda the Good as she announces that the Wicked Witch of the West has been defeated by a mysterious outsider. As she is asked more about why wickedness happens, Glinda tells her the story of Elphaba.
Elphaba Thropp, years earlier, was born with striking green skin after her mother drank a strange elixir. This leads to her growing up ostracized as she also tries to work with the magical powers she has been given. She arrives at Shiz University to take care of Nessarose, her younger sister but ends up catching the attention of Madame Momble, who sees her for her powers of sorcery. Between all this, Elphaba idolizes the Wizard of Oz, believing him to be having the power to change her life.
Instead she clashes with her roommate, the glamorous and self-absorbed Galinda Upland. What begins as rivalry soon softens into a reluctant friendship as Galinda feels sympathetic towards how Elphaba is mistreated by others.
As their friendship blossoms, the political climate of their land worsens. Elphaba, still holding onto hope for the Wizard, finally meets him and is faced with a brutal realization when she witnesses him as being an ordinary man who uses other people's magic for his gain. Feeling betrayed, she embraces her own power, defies him and takes flight, leaving the land after a tearful goodbye from Glinda.
Wicked is now available to stream on Disney+.
