Mia Farrow is putting old wounds aside to honor Diane Keaton.
Following news of the Oscar winner's death on Saturday, Oct. 11, at age 79, Farrow shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, remembering her former friend despite their public fallout over Diane Keaton's defense of Woody Allen.
On Instagram, Farrow wrote:
"She was an absolutely wonderful actress- and a rare and fascinating person. Thoughts with her children and sisters. Rest in peace Diane."
Farrow's tribute comes years after The Godfather actress publicly defended Woody Allen, following allegations that he s**ually abused their daughter, Dylan Farrow.
Allen has long denied the accusations and was never charged with any crime.
"I continue to believe him": Diane Keaton once defended 'friend' Woody Allen amid allegations from Mia Farrow and daughter Dylan
Mia Farrow and Woody Allen were in a long-term relationship (1980 to 1992), which ended after their daughter, Dylan, accused the director of s**ual assault. She wrote an open letter to The New York Times in 2014, detailing how Allen allegedly assaulted her.
"When I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he s**ually assaulted me."
She further revealed:
"He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies. I remember staring at that toy train, focusing on it as it traveled in its circle around the attic. To this day, I find it difficult to look at toy trains."
Allen also revealed his affair with Mia Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi-Previn, whom he later married in 1997. Until today, Farrow remains estranged from her.
Amid the controversy surrounding the family, Diane Keaton entered the mix. The actress, who had been a longtime friend of Allen and also was romantically involved with him, took to X (Twitter) in 2018 to express she was firm on standing by her friend's side.
“Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him. It might be of interest to take a look at the 60 Minutes interview from 1992 and see what you think.”
In her post, the Annie Hall actress also included a link to the interview of Allen defending himself against Dylan and Mia’s accusations.
Diane Keaton's tweet echoed her earlier sentiments in 2014 in her interview with The Guardian. When asked about the allegations against Allen, Keaton simply said:
"I have nothing to say about that. Except: I believe my friend."
