President Donald Trump has criticized ABC for reinstating Jimmy Kimmel Live! after the show was briefly suspended. Taking to Truth Social, Trump blasted both the network and the comedian and called them "a true bunch of losers." He also accused ABC of siding with Democrats through "illegal campaign contributions."
POTUS' fiery statement comes after Disney, ABC's parent company, reversed its earlier decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel over remarks he made about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Kimmel has often used his monologues to mock Trump. For ABC, the decision to bring Kimmel back is seemingly an attempt to balance free speech concerns and affiliate pressures.
Trump's response to Jimmy Kimmel's ABC return
In his Truth Social post, Trump questioned why ABC would "give Jimmy Kimmel his job back" after initially suspending him. He stated:
"I can't believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his "talent" was never there. Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who's not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE."
The post continued:
"He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we're going to test ABC out on this. Let's see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings."
The president accused ABC of acting as "another arm of the DNC." He seemingly suggested that the network's decision to keep Jimmy Kimmel on air was equivalent to an improper political donation. He also hinted at possible legal action as he referenced a past settlement where ABC News paid him $16 million following some comments made on air by anchor George Stephanopoulos.
This conflict started with Kimmel's monologue about Charlie Kirk. The right-wing activist was shot and killed in Utah on September 10, 2025. Kimmel criticized what he described as efforts by some conservatives to use the tragedy for alleged political gain.
His comments were denounced by Trump allies, and Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr suggested ABC's license could be reviewed. As a result, ABC temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week.
On Tuesday night, Kimmel returned to his late-night show with an emotional monologue. He said,
"It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. If the situation was reversed, there is a good chance I would have felt the same way."
He clarified that he did not intend to make light of Kirk's murder or to point fingers at conservatives as a group.
