ABC Sacramento under gunfire following protest for Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspension

The ABC Sacramento offices of local ABC affiliate KXTV (ABC10) were hit by gunfire on Friday, September 19, 2025. The shooting came just one day after a protest took place outside the building. The protest was connected to ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! after controversy over Kimmel’s comments on the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Police said shots were fired around 1:30 p.m. at ABC10’s Broadway headquarters. At least three bullets struck a window while staff were inside. No one was hurt during the incident. Employees were moved to safe areas, and extra security has been put in place.

The event has raised concern in Sacramento, but investigators have not confirmed if the gunfire was linked to the earlier protest. For now, the motive is unknown, and police have not released details about any possible suspects.

Protest over ABC Sacramento's Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspension

According to the report by Variety on September 19, 2025, approximately 15 individuals were outside of ABC Sacramento a day before the shooting. They had been protesting the choice by the group to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! due to criticism against statements made by Kimmel regarding Charlie Kirk.

The group felt that the suspension was not justified and it was a free speech matter. The demonstration took approximately one hour. People were protesting outside the station with signs and speaking out against what they considered was censorship.

It was a peaceful demonstration that had no arrests and violence. There is a possibility that some protesters have confused the group as being directly in control of the programming choice at the network. ABC Sacramento is owned by Tegna and just transmits ABC content only, but not decisions regarding national scheduling made by ABC or Disney.

According to the NBC news report on September 19, 2025, the shooting happened the day after the protest was already finished. At least three bullets struck at a window of the building confirmed by the police. There were employees indoors; none of them were harmed.

Officers are yet to find out whether the attack was targeted or random. No one has been arrested and the police are still investigating evidence. They also have not provided the description of the suspects to the populace. The company claimed to be in close liaisons with the police. It also provided that it is taking new security measures at the station as the investigation proceeds.
