Actress Emma Watson is not allowed to drive for the next six months, the BBC notes. The driving ban was imposed on her after she was caught speeding in her vehicle. The incident dates back to July 2024 when Watson sped at 38mph in her Audi S3 when the prescribed limit was 30mph in an area in Oxford. The Harry Potter actress has been a student at the University of Oxford, where she is pursuing a course in creative writing.
According to The Financial Express, the speeding incident was captured on a traffic camera. As a penalty, she had to pay £1,044 (approx. $1,400) at a Magistrate’s court on July 16.
Although a five-minute hearing was scheduled, Watson did not attend it in person. She had entered a guilty plea on March 3. The BBC notes that before the speeding incident, the actress had nine penalty points on her driver’s license. In a statement, her legal representative, Mr. Wilson, said:
“She fully understands her position and will accept her punishment.”
Besides Emma Watson, another Harry Potter actress, Zoe Wanamaker, was also put on a driving ban for the same duration as Watson. Wanamaker, who played Rolanda Hooch in the series, exceeded the speed limit of 40mph. According to The Mirror UK, she drove at 46mph. Coincidentally, she had nine points on her driving record.
This isn’t the first time the actress has landed in trouble with her car. The Financial Express notes that Emma Watson's car was towed because it was not parked as per the rules.
Emma Watson jokes about being a dangerous person and discusses The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Emma Watson was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2012. Jimmy Fallon mentioned that some people had called Watson the most dangerous person on the internet because scammers used her name and face to trick others into giving out personal information.
She laughed it off, saying her brother joked she was as harmless as a fluffy bunny. Fallon agreed and said she didn’t seem dangerous at all. Watson added:
“So, actually, this was a PR stunt of mine to try and kind of edgy myself.”
Talking about The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Emma Watson shared that the movie had a remarkable soundtrack. She said the director, Steve, gave her her first vinyl record of Morrissey, which sparked her love for collecting vinyl.
She found it more fun and less stressful than using an iPod. Reflecting on the film, which was based on a book, she explained that fans of the book were deeply passionate about it. Emma Watson admitted she hadn’t known about the book before taking the role, but understood its appeal after reading it.
In 2014, the actress became the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. At the time, she said it was an honor and a responsibility she didn’t take lightly. Women’s rights were personal to her, and she saw this as an opportunity to make a real difference.
She admitted she still had much to learn but hoped to use her knowledge and experience to contribute meaningfully to the role.
