Sam Mendes' Beatles biopic has just announced four brand new cast members as the wives of the Fab Four, circling out the lead cast. Previously, the films were announced to star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Joining them now are Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey.

Cox, an early Beatles fan, met Ringo Starr at Liverpool’s Cavern Club in 1962, and their whirlwind romance led to their marriage in 1965 and three children. Photographer Linda Eastman met Paul McCartney in 1967, sparking an instant connection that evolved into marriage and the formation of Wings after the Beatles’ breakup. John Lennon encountered avant-garde artist Yoko Ono at her London exhibit, beginning a lifelong creative and romantic partnership. Model Pattie Boyd met George Harrison on the set of A Hard Day’s Night in 1964, their shared fascination with spirituality deepening their relationship and defining their time together.

Speaking about the actresses' casting, Mendes told Deadline,

“Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right. And I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure.”

Ronan is known for her roles in films like Ladybird, Little Women, Atonement and The Lovely Bones. Lou Wood received critical acclaim for her roles in Sex Education and The White Lotus. Anna Sawai is well known for her role in Shogun , while McKenna Bruce's acting credits include Tracy Beaker Returns,The Dumping Ground and Persuasion.

More details about the Beatles biopic

Sam Mendes is creating history by combining one of the most legendary musical presences in the industry with a cinematic event. He is all set to tell the story of The Beatles through four separate feature films, each one devoted to a different member of the band.

As for why he's taking three films to tell the stories of the band, Mendes told The Times,

“As a filmmaker, one is always looking to find new ways to look at the past. To turn historical events so they catch the light in new and different ways. My film 1917 was an attempt to do this. The Beatles films we are making now also fall into this category. And here again I felt the same portal to the past had been opened.”

The Oscar-winning director is teaming up with Neal Street Productions for what’s being described as a “four-film cinematic event,” with Apple Corps Ltd. and the band themselves, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, granting full life story and music rights for the very first time.

More details about the Beatles biopic are awaited for now, with a release date set for April 2028.
