Jason Statham's Mutiny has a new release date after much delay, as the film is now scheduled to hit theaters later than previously announced. Originally set to release on January 9, 2026, the film will now arrive more than six months later, on August 21, 2026. Directed by Jean-François Richet, who previously worked on Plane, the film tells the story of Cole Reed, played by Statham. Reed is a former special forces and private security operative who witnesses his billionaire boss being murdered and finds himself framed for the crime. It's an intense action drama, but looking at Statham's past roles, it's well within his usual action repertoire.
The delay could be a marketing move, aimed at releasing the film as a late-summer action offering. A summer release also allows for a bigger theatrical push and more competition, along with a larger budget for marketing. It also suggests the team's confidence in the film, supported by Statham's established action-hero reputation, who has emerged as a leading action star in Hollywood.
More details about Jason Statham's Mutiny
Jason Statham returns to high-octane action in Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis. Alongside Statham, the film stars Annabelle Wallis, who leads opposite him. The cast also includes Jason Wong as Taran, Roland Møller as the film’s antagonist Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester.
Produced by Statham’s own Punch Palace Productions alongside MadRiver Pictures, Mutiny had Statham attached to star and Richet directing as early as the 2024 Cannes Film Market. Principal photography began in September 2024 in the United Kingdom, including a high-profile lockdown of One Canada Square at Canary Wharf. Additional filming took place in Malta, with production wrapping up on November 25, 2024. Lionsgate acquired North American distribution, while Sky secured U.K. rights through StudioCanal, with The Veterans handling international sales.
The film will be another addition to Statham's growing collection of action thrillers, following David Ayer's The Beekeeper in 2024, which opened to generally positive reviews. The film earned $162 million globally and is now moving forward with a sequel. Ayer and Statham collaborated again in 2025 on A Working Man, which grossed $98 million, more than double its budget. Looking ahead, the actor is set to star in Shelter, another action thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh, scheduled to hit theaters in January 2026.
As of now, the film doesn't have a trailer or any sneak peeks, and it could be a while before we get a glimpse with the newly pushed-back date. But from everything we know, and especially given Statham's expertise in action, Mutiny aims to deliver a thrilling cinematic experience.
Mutiny will be in theaters on August 21, 2026.
