More details about Mortal Kombat 2

Mortal Kombat 2 is officially stepping into the arena on October 24, 2025, in IMAX. The sequel promises even more brutal action than the 2021 reboot, with bigger fights, higher stakes, and plenty of familiar and not-so-familiar faces ready to throw down.

Director Simon McQuoid returns for round two, joined by screenwriter Jeremy Slater, known for his work on Moon Knight. This time around, the team is going all in, expanding the universe with more realms, more characters, and a proper Mortal Kombat tournament, something the first film skipped over entirely.

Among the new fighters stepping into the ring is Karl Urban, taking on the role of fan-favorite Johnny Cage. Returning cast members include Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, and others. Of course, some characters may return through supernatural means, but regardless, the old cast will ensure the film maintains its legacy and will live up to the success of its predecessor.

New faces in the movie include Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

As per the plot, the sequel jumps right into the iconic tournament. Earthrealm’s on the brink of losing ten straight battles, one more and Outworld gets the green light to invade. This time, there’s an actual scoreboard, higher emotional stakes, and a more focused structure.

Mortal Kombat 2 will be in theaters on October 24, 2025.
