Alec Baldwin clarifies details of East Hampton car crash, says he swerved to avoid "the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen"

He said the truck overtook him on a narrow road, forcing him to make a split-second decision to prevent a more serious accident. Baldwin added that he deliberately swerved into a tree to stay safe.

The East Hampton Police Department was on the scene. Baldwin was grateful to the officers who came to their rescue, and in particular, Officer Gerken, who came to their rescue immediately after the accident. The actor also apologized to his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, about ruining her car, but noted that all was well with the fans.

He emphasized that he was not involved in an accident due to excessive speed and distraction. Rather, he claimed that it was a split-second judgment that was made as a result of preventing what would have been a significantly more serious accident. Baldwin claimed that the truck crossed his path and he had no time to take any action, but only swerve.

According to the actor, the crash resulted in huge damage to the front part of the Range Rover, but he and his brother were okay. He told him that the car was a mess, but he was happy that there was no one wounded. Baldwin said that he was shaken yet thankful that things worked out the way they did.

A report published on USA Today on October 13, 2025, said that, following the crash, East Hampton Police arrived promptly to determine the situation.
