Alon Aboutboul who played Dr. Pavel in The Dark Knight Rises, dies aged 60

Alon Aboutboul has passed away. The Israeli actor was known for his role as Dr. Pavel in Christopher Nolan's 2012 superhero film The Dark Knight Rises. In his long career, Aboutboul acted in over 100 films in Hollywood across multiple genres.

The actor was 60 years old at the time of his passing on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. As per media reports, Aboutboul told bystanders that he was not feeling well. Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul, known for his Hollywood films and shows like Snowfall, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman, and Rambo, has passed away at the age of 60. As mentioned above, the actor collapsed at HaBonim Beach in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was given CPR, but the actor could not be saved. The exact cause of his death is yet to be confirmed.

Miki Zohar, currently the Minister for Culture and Sport in the Israeli government, took to X (formerly Twitter) to pay his final tribute to the actor. He wrote in Hebrew:

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of the actor Alon Aboutboul, may his memory be blessed. Over the years, he portrayed a wide range of characters, bringing depth and emotion to them, leaving a profound mark on Israeli culture.”

He is survived by Shir Bilia (his wife) and their four kids. As per Ynet, one of the bystanders said that the actor came out of the water and told people that he was unwell.

“It happened in an instant. He went into the water and everything seemed perfectly fine. After a few minutes, he suddenly came out of the water, approached people and said he wasn’t feeling well, and then they called for help. Everyone was really scared, he came out of the water and collapsed on the beach."

The bystander further added:

“Everyone wanted to help, and they recognised who it was when he came out of the water. This is a terrible tragedy here this morning, everyone here is in a big shock.”

Alon Aboutboul was born on May 28, 1965, in the Kiryat Ata region of Israel. He had acted in films like London Has Fallen, Rambo III, and Body of Lies. In The Dark Knight Rises, Aboutboul portrayed a Russian scientist named Dr. Pavel.
