This week, social media went into a frenzy after a video on TikTok went viral that claimed Dan Schneider impregnated Amanda Bynes when she was 13. However, the 39-year-old former Nickelodeon star has stepped out to vehemently refute the accusation, calling the viral video “fake,” “altered,” and created purely for “click bait.” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostOn November 18, a fan account's TikTok combined two unconnected videos, which sparked the rumor. The first clip was taken from Amanda Bynes's recent Instagram story, where she was sitting in a diner, where the text appears:“The man I got pregnant with him at the age of 13!”While the second clip showed an old video of young Bynes sitting in with Dan Schneider in a jacuzzi from The Amanda Show, with the text:“Behind the scenes w/ Amanda Bynes and Dan Schneider. PLEASE WATCH THIS. I’m sorry for not making your childhood happy again!”The TikTok video received 15 million viewsEarlier in 2024, the film reappeared in the extremely contentious documentary Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which looked at claims regarding Nickelodeon's workplace culture.Amanda Bynes slams the rumors says it's all "lies for click bait"Speaking to TMZ, Amanda Bynes quickly denied the rumors, emphasizing that neither she nor any of her platforms had released the edited video. She told TMZ that the video clips were totally unrelated and were put together. She even stated that the account which posted the video was a fan page and not hers, and it was all made for clickbait. Amanda Bynes confirmed that she was filming her partner in the original footage; however, the edited version cuts right into the clip from The Amanda Show, which falsely frames her as confessing abuse. The Amanda Show, which aired from 1999 to 2002, featured Schneider as a guest in comedy skits in a jacuzzi pool, as shown in the viral video. None of the footage shows inappropriate physical contact or supports any form of misconduct. Even in the past, the actress has repeatedly warned fans on Instagram that she does not have a TikTok account and neither plans on ever making one. How did the video gain so much traction? The video went viral, and people believed it because the television producer, screenwriter, and actor had been battling years of accusations. Following the #MeToo movement, he was been accused of creating a toxic work atmosphere, harassment, verbal abuse and gender discrimination in addition to other complaints of s*xual assault and abuse from his young actors and crew.As a result, the network conducted an internal inquiry, and by 2018, Nickelodeon finally severed its relationship with him. In 2024, a documentary, Quiet On Set, reignited all the controversy again. He denied all allegations of abuse and s*xual assault. A spokesperson had released a statement before the release of the documentary:“Dan cared about the kids on his shows even when sometimes their own families unfortunately did not. He understood what they were going through and he was their biggest champion. The fact is many of the kids on these shows are put in the untenable position of becoming the breadwinner for their family and the pressure that comes along with that.”The spokesperson continued:“Add on top of that the difficulties of growing up and having to do so under the spotlight while working a demanding job, all as a child. That is why there are many levels of standards, executives, lawyers, teachers and parents everywhere, all the time, on every set, every day. However, it is still a hard place to be a kid and nobody knew that better than Dan.”Stay tuned to Soap Central for more information.
