Gareth Evans, the director of the action-packed The Raid franchise, has wrapped filming of his next project called A Colt Is My Passport, a remake of the 60s hit by Takashi Nomura, as reported by Deadline. The film is said to bring a star-studded cast, which includes Tim Roth, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boyton, Victor Alli, Ewan Mitchell, Burn Gorman, and Noah Taylor. More names might be revealed, but this is the roster currently confirmed for the movie.

This will be Evans' seventh feature film, who has directed Footsteps (2006), Merantau (2009), The Raid (2011), The Raid 2 (2014), Apostle (2018), and Havoc (2025). A Colt is My Passport is likely to be a modern take on the classic 1967 film, which featured Joe Shishido, Jerry Fujio, Ryōtarō Sugi, and more.

This is similar to the recent Spike Lee and Denzel Washington collaboration, Highest 2 Lowest, where the latter played David King, a music mogul who is asked for ransom for the kidnapping of his driver's son. It was the modern take on Akira Kurosawa's High and Low (1963).

The director became an instant fan of the film when he saw it back in the day. He told Deadline that:

"The incredible cast led by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, Victor Alli, Burn Gorman and Tim Roth have been an absolute dream to work with. Their dedication towards realising the vision of the film has been nothing short of inspiring, making the last 12 weeks of production a deeply rewarding and reinvigorating experience. I am beyond grateful for the trust and faith Orion have shown in us and I am so excited to share this wildly ambitious film with audiences worldwide."

In the original film, based on a novel called Tobosha by Shinji Fujihara, follows two contract killers, Shuji Kamimura (Joe Shishido) and Shun Shiozaki (Jerry Fujio), who are initially hired to kill someone. They are successful, but then they fall into trouble when the dead man's crew captures them and tries to kill these men.

Popular crime film directors and the French New Wave were a great influence on this film. It was also a great boost for Shishido's career and remains one of his personal favorites. As of this writing, Gareth Evan's A Colt Is My Passport doesn't have a release date yet. But we will keep updating as soon as we learn more about the film.
