Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, commonly known as Carlos Alcaraz, has lately been in the news for his new buzzcut hairstyle. The 22-year-old tennis champion showcased his brand-new haircut during his first match against American tennis player Reilly Opelka at the US Open on August 25, 2025. While most people, as well as some of his fellow tennis players, were a little surprised by his unexpected hairstyle, prominent tennis star Frances Tiafoe also wasn't pleased with Carlos Alcaraz's buzzcut.
As per the ATP rankings, the second-best tennis player in the world, with five grand slam wins, Carlos Alcaraz, according to People, blamed one of his brothers, who made a mistake while trimming his hair. As per People, Alcaraz, regarding his buzzcut hairstyle, informed reporters that:
"My brother misunderstood with the machine he cut it. And the only way to fix it is to shave it off."
While he corrected himself, Carlos Alcaraz further added:
"To be honest, it’s not that good. Its not that bad, I guess."
While Alcaraz himself wasn't happy or satisfied with his current hairstyle, fellow tennis player, the 27-year-old Frances Tiafoe, was quite critical of Carlos' buzzcut. According to People, Tiafoe, on August 25, while talking to reporters about Alcaraz's new haircut, said:
"I mean, it's definitely terrible. He's my guy though. It's funny. I looked at him and I was like, I guess you're aerodynamic."
Tiafoe, who achieved world No.10 in singles in 2023 and became the first Sierra Leonean American man to make it to the top 10, further added:
"Yeah, I don't know who told him that it's good. I don't know who told him to do that, but it's terrible. From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it's horrendous."
Carlos Alcaraz also made headlines in May 2025

This is not the first time that Carlos Alcaraz has made headlines for something that is related to his overall looks. In May 2025, Carlos was in the news before a match at the French Open, when he showcased a look without his beard. He opened up about it at a press conference and said:
"I think everyone saw my hair, my beard."
He went ahead and continued:
"I had to do something about it. Probably people aren’t used to seeing me getting a haircut between the matches. I think that’s why people were a bit surprised. But I think that’s something normal."
At the time, Alcaraz flew his barber to the French capital, Paris. On Monday, August 25, he told reporters that New York was "too far" for his barber to travel. Carlos said:
"I’m not really into the hair at all. I’m the guy who thinks like, ‘Okay, hair grows,’ and in a few days it’s gonna be okay, I guess. It just happens, and that’s it."
