Mads Mikkelsen and Diane Kruger will be uniting for an intense science fiction thriller called Ami, which has currently started production in Spain. Directed by Fernando Szurman, the project is being written by John Wesley Norton and Ezequiel Martinez Jr. Produced by Fishcorb, Capstone Studios, and Conch Republic Films, with Andres Sanchez executive-producing, the film is being distributed by Capstone Global, with buying underway as American Film Market approaches in LA.

Talking about the film, Szurman told Deadline,

“What excited me about Ami was the opportunity to tell a profoundly human story through a genre that allows for both scope and intimacy. I want to push the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling while grounding it in emotional truth. We’re not just making a survival film; we’re inviting audiences into a deeply personal space odyssey.”

According to Deadline, the film's official synopsis describes the film as being led by Mikkelsen as an astronaut, who crash-lands on an uncharted planet after a turbulent accident. Accompanied by his Quantum AI companion Ami, played by Diane Kruger, he fights for his survival as he navigates an alien landscape and is "forced to confront the fragility of memory, the isolation of space, and the resilience of the human spirit.”

Christian Mercuri, CEO of Capstone added more details about the film as he said,

Ami is exactly the kind of daring, character-driven genre film that reflects Capstone’s commitment to globally resonant storytelling. It’s a rare combination of emotional intimacy and cinematic scale, brought to life by a world-class creative team. With Fernando’s distinctive vision and a cast of extraordinary talent, this project exemplifies the elevated, high-concept filmmaking we champion.”

Diane Kruger’s career has been a blend of elegance and edge. A model turned actress, she first caught global attention when Cannes honored her with the Trophée Chopard. Hollywood quickly followed, with breakout turns as Helen in Troy and the adventurous Dr. Abigail Chase in National Treasure and its sequel. Tarantino tapped her brilliance for Inglourious Basterds, and she later unsettled audiences in the thriller Unknown. Kruger showed striking range on television as Detective Sonya Cross in The Bridge. In 2017, she returned to her German roots with In the Fade, a performance that earned her Cannes’ Best Actress award.

On the other hand, Mads Mikkelsen’s career has unfolded like a masterclass in reinvention. Starting in Denmark, he played everything from small-time criminals in Pusher to conflicted men in Open Hearts and After the Wedding. His international breakthrough came with a chilling turn as Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, setting the stage for a global career. Whether embodying Stravinsky, a Marvel sorcerer, or a Star Wars scientist, Mikkelsen brings depth to every role. His award-winning performance in The Hunt cemented him as one of Europe’s finest, while cult acclaim followed with Hannibal. Recent highlights include Another Round, The Promised Land, and Indiana Jones.

It would certainly be interesting to see what edge both the stars bring to Ami as an astronaut and an AI companion. But looking at their diverse filmographies, we can certainly expect a film that is equal parts thrilling and heartfelt.
