Angelina Jolie is reportedly planning to ditch her life in Los Angeles for a home abroad.
People Magazine has reported that the veteran actress is preparing to “put the house up for sale” as she considers shifting abroad. A source told the outlet that Angelina Jolie
“never wanted to live in L.A. full time. She didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad," referring to the actress's former husband, Brad Pitt, 61.
The pair share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. They had been locked in an eight-year legal battle before they reached a settlement in their divorce in December last year. The source said that Angelina Jolie
“plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year. She's eyeing several locations abroad. She'll be very happy when she's able to leave Los Angeles." They said of her home: “It's a historic masterpiece and truly such a beautiful estate.”
Everything we know about Angelina Jolie's plans to leave LA as she says she longs for "peace" and "safety"
The Daily Mail and People Magazine have reported that the actress is planning to list her house after completing some minor improvements. She purchased the house back in 2017 for a staggering $24.5 million from Hollywood juggernaut Cecil B. DeMille. The move came eight months after she parted ways with Pitt.
It reportedly boasts six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, luxury gardens, and a library, among other things. The Daily Mail has reported that it has a swimming pool and retro fountains on-site, as well as a tea house and a fitness room. DeMille himself bought the home back in 1916, reportedly for less than $28,000.
Just last year, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Angelina Jolie opened up about wanting to leave Los Angeles as soon as her youngest kids come of age.
"I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave. When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here," she said. "[After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world."
Back in 2021, during an interview with British Vogue, Angelina Jolie said she purchased the home in the Los Feliz neighbourhood because she wanted her kids to stay closer to Brad Pitt:
“I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away.” She said of the estate: “I felt a little pressure moving in. Like I had snuck into where DeMille and [Charlie] Chaplin would hang out. I love most that there is no entertainment room, but lots of pathways and places to walk and think. I feel very fortunate we have that at this time.”
