Beloved celebrity chef Anne Burrell passed away on June 17, 2025. At the end of 55, she was found dead at her apartment in Brooklyn, New York.
On June 19, renowned restaurateur and caterer, Melba Wilson, spoke with TMZ in an exclusive conversation and recalled Anne looking "healthy" and "vibrant" before her unfortunate demise.
Burrell's family released a statement on June 17, confirming the news of her passing. As People reported, their heartfelt statement read,
"Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered."

The statement also conveyed,
"Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."
Melba Wilson spoke about Anne Burrell in a recent interview
During her conversation with TMZ, Melba recalled talking to Anne Burrell "last week." Recounting their chit-chat, she shared,
"Anne was fine."
The Food Network personality added that they discussed karaoke. They also talked about how Anne loved playing board games.
Feeling "totally unexpected" with the Worst Cooks in America co-host's death, Wilson further expressed,
"To wake up yesterday, or to hear yesterday, that she’s no longer with us is devastating. It’s shocking. It’s unbelievable to know that someone so full of life is no longer with us."

She also looked back at celebrating her birthday with Anne Burrell and her husband, Stuart Claxton.
The late chef danced and "had an amazing time" at the birthday party. They met and enjoyed the special occasion around "a month and a half ago."
Melba Wilson revealed during the conversation that Anne seemed healthy and looked well before her untimely passing.
Sharing how Burrell never discussed feeling sick or suffering from any illness, she also stated,
"Anne never mentioned anything about being sick. That’s why this is such a big shock to us. She was healthy. She was vibrant. She was beautiful."

According to a Newsweek report, published on June 19, Anne Burrell has possibly suffered from a cardiac arrest. A New York City Fire Department spokesperson shared the sensitive information with the outlet.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson from the New York City Police Department disclosed to the outlet that
"officers responded to a 911 call of an aided female inside 505 Court Street, within the confines of the 76 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 55-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded and pronounced the female deceased at the scene."
