"Another October without him": Fans pen emotional tributes to Liam Payne on the first anniversary of his death

Former One Direction member, Liam Payne, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024. Payne's fans around the world, along with the One Direction fandom, have taken to social media platforms to mourn the singer's death on his first death anniversary.

X users have taken to the platform to remember Liam Payne, his music, and his personality. A user (@ssinr_) noted Liam's death anniversary and mourned the loss.

"Another October without him, no October will ever bring back what we lost in October 2024."

Another user (@simplysusie82) mentioned that they are "starting to feel heavy again" on Payne's death anniversary,

"It’s starting to feel heavy again. I remember it as clear as if it had just happened. It’s easy to tuck sad memories neatly away when you don’t want to face them, but they’re clawing to the surface this week. 💔"

Another user (@Liam_P_Forever) noted that they missed Payne,

Another user (@YFJustice4Liam) prayed for Liam's mother:

Liam Payne's former girlfriend mourns his loss

Liam Payne's girlfriend at the time, Kate Cassidy, also mourned his death on social media ahead of his death anniversary. Via a video, Cassidy said:

"I come on here not to cry - I feel honestly extremely numb today. I actually think somebody could slap me across the face and I wouldn't be fazed."

Cassidy, while recalling the last moments with the singer, said,

"I was sitting on the couch, just expressing to him how much I'm going to miss him, how much I love him. Honestly, it's so weird to look back at because it was such a long, heartfelt goodbye. He looked at me and said, '(Kate), you're going to miss your flight. You're acting like this is the last time you're ever going to see me again.' And little did I know it literally was the last time I got to see him."

Kate Cassidy and Liam Payne were vacationing in Argentina when Liam died after Kate left for the US. Payne fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and, as per an autopsy, later passed away from "polytrauma". As per a toxicology report, the singer had traces of "alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants" in his system at the time of his death.
