Brad Pitt has been making waves throughout the film industry with his participation and unbridled excitement for his upcoming F1 feature. When speaking with E! News at an event for his high-octane racing romp, Pitt was asked if a team-up with his Interview with the Vampire castmate Tom Cruise was in the cards. The ever-cool movie icon responded,
“Well, I'm not going to hang my a** off airplanes and sh** like that, so when he does something again that's on the ground.”
While seeing the duo on-screen for a last hurrah would be absolutely electric, there seem to be some legitimate road blocks in the way, with Cruise’s propensity for death-defying stunts and Pitt’s unwillingness to participate in them being at the core.
Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise - A history
While their approach to stunts may differ, especially as the two continue to push the envelope in terms of their age, both have shown a love for speed, stunts, and a little mischief over the course of their careers. During their time together shooting the Neil Jordan-helmed Interview with the Vampire, the pair famously used to drive go karts to unwind after long days of filming on set.
“Believe me, I’ve raced against him. When we were doing ‘Interview with the Vampire,’ we’d go and race go-karts. We’d literally finish and go drive go-karts all night.”
This admission actually came from Cruise, who touted Brad Pitt as a "hell of a driver" when the topic came up at Paramount 2025’s panel. He also directly referred to Pitt as a “friend.” This is an interesting development as there’s been rumors aplenty since their time on set together in 1993 that the two had a frosty relationship.
“Brad’s got a new movie with Jerry Bruckheimer and Joe Kosinski. I can’t wait to see that this summer. It’ll be awesome. It’s great to see Brad driving. He’s very good.”
Apparently, Cruise’s comments dispel the notion and the actor claimed to be extremely excited to watch Brad Pitt in F1 in theatres this summer. Perhaps their time racing on set has in some way prepared Pitt for his current project.
According to the film’s official website, the synopsis for F1 reads as follows,
“Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.”
The film will drop in theatres on June 27.
