Are Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift still close? Singer opens up on their longtime friendship

Ed Sheeran is proving that some friendships don't skip a beat. The English singer-songwriter, longtime friend and collaborator of Taylor Swift, shared that their connection remains rock-solid after her engagement to Travis Kelce.

In his recent conversation with Access Hollywood, Ed Sheeran revealed that he and the All Too Well songstress spend four hours catching up whenever they see each other, talking about "life stuff."

Speaking of Taylor Swift's engagement to the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end, he told the outlet:

"I'm not self-conscious about my relationship with her. We've been friends for very, very many years. We're super close and we see each other when we see each other, and when we see each other, we lock back into where we left off."

The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker went on:

"My way of viewing it is like, me and Taylor are mates and I will see her. And I saw her a week after that [the engagement] happened, so I did that interview and then I saw her and you talk in person."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Aug. 26, with the pop superstar confirming the news through her Instagram with a cheeky caption:

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

She accompanied her message with several photos of the NFL star proposing to her amid a flower-laden venue. Taylor Swift also flaunted her ring, an antique old mine cut diamond set in a vintage yellow gold band.

Meanwhile, according to Ed Sheeran in his Access Hollywood interview, whenever he and Taylor Swift meet in person, they get to have a "four-hour catch-up and it's life stuff."

For context, the Photograph singer doesn't constantly carry a cell phone and steers clear of social media. This detail was brought up by Taylor Swift during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in early October, where she said:

"He doesn't have a phone. This is one thing I love about him. It's very eccentric. Love it. But when I'm going through saying, 'Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?' I’m going through my texts and being like, 'Who have I texted within the last like, month of my life?'"

"You have to email him or FaceTime him, and he has to find an iPad and they have to give it to him like he's a child. This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet. When the news came out, I was like, 'We forgot to call Ed!'"

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran have collaborated multiple times, previously in Everything Has Changed from her 2012 album Red, End Game from 2017's Reputation (alongside Future), Run from Swift's From the Vault in 2021, and Sheeran's The Joker and the Queen remix.
