Users across the US report that money transfer apps such as PayPal and Venmo are down, causing outrage. Tracking site DownDetector has reported the outage, stating both services went down just before 9 a.m. on Friday.
The outage led to widespread disruption, as users scrambled to access the apps for payments or to view their accounts. DownDetector.com, a site that tracks outages on electronic services like Venmo and PayPal, reported this as thousands of people began flooding the website.

In an approximation, 77% of users experienced problems making payments with Venmo, while 13% encountered problems with general financial transfers. The remaining 10% couldn’t even log onto the app.
As for PayPal, there was more of a range, as about 38% of users were reporting issues with the app, while another 37% said they couldn’t log in. 25% stated they had issues making payments.
The internet expressed concern over PayPal and Venmo not working
Users took to the internet to express their concerns and aggravation over the apps being down. One user stated,
"Yes, constant error message. Activity section won’t refresh"
While another sarcastically commented on the idea of a cashless society,
"Oh hey, I see @Venmo and @PayPal are down on a Friday morning. Tell me more about how we should be a cashless society tho...."
"Friendly fyi, Paypal was doinked out briefly this morning. If you have it linked to anything that goes through on the 1st of the month you might want to double check it"
— this netizen expressed. While, another commented,
"Venmo's down? Time to reevaluate payment options."
PayPal and Venmo have around 434 million active users worldwide, and nearly 90 million users in the US, respectively. The story is still developing and will be further updated.
