Avengers: Endgame marked the conclusion of a storyline that had been going on since 2008's Iron Man. It was a sequel to Infinity War and the 22nd title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was released on April 26, 2019, after its premiere at the Los Angeles Convention Centre. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

There's good news for all the Marvel fans as the film is returning to the theatres.

Avengers: Endgame to re-release in 2026

Marvel Studios has announced that they will be re-releasing Avengers: Endgame in theatres from September 25, 2026. This will be just a few weeks before Avengers: Doomsday hits the screen on December 18, the same year.

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo with a screenplay from Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It focuses on the remaining Avengers superheroes as they try to reverse Thanos's action, which led to the erasure of half of humanity.

It featured an ensemble cast of actors, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, and Brie Larson, among others.

Upon release, Avengers: Endgame received a positive critical response. It also grossed $2.799 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film till 2021. The film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The makers have since announced two sequels: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which are set to be released in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

The re-release of Endgame might help in creating more hype around Doomsday, which is coming just a few weeks after it. The franchise began in 2008 with Iron Man. Its success was followed by several interconnected films and storylines within the MCU.

The story culminated with Endgame. Since then, Marvel has been struggling to come up with a project that would be received similarly to the 2019 film. Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr., who died in Endgame, is the villain in Doomsday.
