Makeup artist Jasen Kaplan has passed away. Sources told Page Six that Kaplan died in a New York City hospital in the hours leading up to the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square.

Over the years, Jasen Kaplan had become one of the most relied-upon makeup artists in Hollywood. His client list included Kelly Osbourne, Eva Longoria, Lynda Carter and Cyndi Lauper. Kaplan also maintained close relationships with Bethenny Frankel, Tinsley Mortimer, Lydia Hearst and Osbourne.

Tributes followed shortly after the tragic news became public. Kelly Osbourne paid her tribute to Kaplan, whom she described as a longtime friend, in a message shared on her Instagram Story on Thursday, January 1.

“I’m devastated. I love you so much @JasenKaplan, Thank you for all the love, laughter and joy you brought [to] my life. I hope you are at peace now. Life will never be the same without you! RIP my dear friend.”

She later shared additional posts reflecting on their time together, including a memory from a day Jasen Kaplan dressed up as her.

“No one was as funny as you!” Osbourne wrote. “You were the best wing man a girl could ask for. 25 years of friendship and every second was worth it,” she added.

Bethenny Frankel used Instagram to put together a small scrapbook of memories for Jasen Kaplan: videos, pictures, little moments stitched into a long, affectionate caption. Her post traced the makeup artist’s daily generosity and the private ways he had shaped life on the road and off it.

“Jasen Kaplan had a positive energy that was truly infectious. He was fun, vibrant, and always brought his A game. The world lost a one-of-a-kind gem on New Year’s Eve, which still doesn’t feel real,” she began.

Frankel wrote that Jasen Kaplan had been

“magnetic, generous, endlessly supportive, and always sharing his latest finds—food, products, people. He showed up with humor, heart, and a genuine interest in everyone around him.”

She called him the “ultimate connector,” the person who introduced her to stylists, restaurant haunts and beauty brands, and she noted a small, telling habit: he sent weekly messages about what he’d discovered, most recently a “fancy Hello Kitty cookie jar that reminded him of me.”

She framed their relationship as work and family folded together: Kaplan was her makeup artist, friend and “constant part of my team,” and a member of her “Little Miss Sunshine” crew on trips and events. “We cried laughing constantly,” Frankel wrote, before sharing a scene straight out of deadline life, a delayed flight, a frantic car ride from LGA, Kaplan trying to finish her makeup in twenty minutes. She remembered truffle- and caviar-stuffed meals in Paris and an endless search for the best Asian food.

“He always showed up and cheered me on—in life, work, and online. He’s seen me in every form, from fixing broken zippers to making me feel like a supermodel. If you were around him, you were happier. He always had a story.”

Bethenny Frankel also revealed additional details about Jasen Kaplan in her Instagram tribute, describing both his personality and his approach to his work.

“He loved anything fancy, never turned down a bite of food, and was an exceptionally talented, detail-oriented makeup artist who took pride in every detail. He also remains the only fun gay man I’ve ever met who doesn’t dance.”

Frankel ended her post with a personal message addressed directly to Jasen Kaplan.

“You will always be on the B Team, for life and the afterlife. No one is going to have better glam than I do in heaven. Rest in peace, and enjoy all the caviar and coconut cake.”

As per a report shared by Us Weekly, a cause of death had yet to be revealed.
