Billy Ray Cyrus has pushed back on a woman's claims that she's Miley Cyrus' biological mother.
Page Six has reported that a woman, Jayme Lee, alleged in a May lawsuit that she gave birth to the former Disney child star at the age of 12. In documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Lee said that she entered into a “private adoption agreement’ with Billy and his former wife, Tish Cyrus.
However, this led to “severe emotional distress” when Billy Ray allegedly “misrepresented the circumstances” of the alleged adoption, she claimed. The singer has since pushed back, the Daily Mail has reported, as he accused Lee of filing the lawsuit for the "purposes of harassing" him. He also claimed that the accusations are "false and absurd."
Furthermore, Billy Ray Cyrus' lawyer pointed out that, under Tennessee law, it is "not legally permissible" to adopt a child without obtaining a court order beforehand.
"The Court dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice this morning and awarded Mr Cyrus the recovery of his reasonable and necessary attorney's fees and costs," a statement from his attorney reads.
Jayme Lee's allegations against Billy Ray Cyrus explored:
Back in June, in her amended filing, Jayme Lee alleged that the Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker and his former wife, 58, cut off all contact with her after Miley Cyrus was born, and even "threatened (her) with police action."
She pushed for a supervised DNA maternity and paternity test of Miley and her parents, and also to reexamine the legal details of the alleged adoption. However, a judge dismissed this motion in October. In November, Billy Ray Cyrus filed a motion to toss all of Lee's claims.
As of this writing, neither Miley Cyrus nor her mother, Tish, has issued a formal statement addressing Lee's claims.
Billy Ray Cyrus shares three kids with his former wife: Miley, 33, Braison, 31, and Noah, 25. He also adopted her kids from her previous marriage to Baxter Neal Helson: Brandi, 38, and Trace, 36. The pair were married for 28 years, having parted ways in 2022. The singer is now dating actress Elizabeth Hurley.
Miley Cyrus confirmed her engagement to musician Maxx Morando just this month, and the singer, who was notoriously estranged from her, took to Instagram to celebrate the news.
“So happy you and MaxxAgazillion found each other!!!! Congratulations! Happy to see you both so happy!!! love Dad," he wrote.
