Black Swan is re-releasing in theaters between August 21 and August 24, 2025, in IMAX screens. Darren Aronofsky recently spoke to Vogue magazine to talk about the film. During the conversation, he opened up about the rumored rivalry that happened between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman during the shoot. He said,

“My take is that I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue. Mila and Natalie both realized very quickly what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood. They’re both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing.”

In the same interview, Portman also spoke about the shooting of Black Swan. She said,

“I remember being separated from Mila and that we weren’t in the same space a lot when we weren’t shooting. She’s so f*cking talented and I love her so much and I’m happy she’s doing a great job!”

Kunis, who was also a part of the conversation.

“Darren would tell me, ‘Nat is working really, really hard. She’s not even taking Saturdays and Sundays off.’ Then I would text Nat and she’d be like, ‘…No, I’m not?’ I think that’s how we figured out what Darren was up to, but it was all in good fun.”

Portman and Kunis played the roles of ballerinas Nina Sayers and Lily, respectively. The film focuses on their journey as they prepare for the Swan Lake ballet. During this process, Nina starts losing her grip on reality.

Black Swan minted $329.3 million at the box office. It ended up receiving five nominations at the 83rd Academy Awards in categories like Best Picture. Portman ended up winning the award for Best Actress and also won at the Golden Globe Awards.
