The legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni took a sharper turn this week as Lively’s attorneys filed a motion accusing Baldoni’s lead counsel, Bryan Freedman, of violating court rules through a media strategy aimed at harming Lively’s image.

Blake Lively, who has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and of orchestrating online retaliation against her, argues that Freedman’s repeated media appearances serve no legal purpose and are instead meant to sway potential jurors. The motion, filed Monday, claims that Freedman launched into “biased and inflammatory pre-trial indictments of Ms. Lively’s character, credibility and reputation” almost immediately after a February court directive ordered both sides to avoid such conduct.

That directive, issued by Judge Lewis Liman, followed complaints from Lively’s legal team regarding out-of-court statements Freedman had already made. Since then, Freedman has appeared in several interviews, including with TMZ, where he said Lively was “afraid of the truth” and suggested she might skip her deposition.

The motion frames Freedman’s actions as an ethical breach, pointing to rules that restrict attorneys from making public statements likely to prejudice ongoing proceedings.

After sitting for a deposition last Thursday, Blake Lively found herself at the center of yet another legal twist. The next day, Justin Baldoni’s attorneys filed a motion over a discovery issue and included her sealed 292-page transcript in the court filing.

While the document hasn’t been made public, Lively’s legal team responded swiftly on Monday, asking the court to remove the transcript from the record entirely. They argued that depositions are meant to remain private unless portions are needed for specific legal purposes.

As per Variety, her lawyers accused Baldoni’s team of pushing a media-driven strategy. Their claim: opposing counsel is trying to either get the deposition into the public eye or force Lively’s side into requesting it stay sealed , both options feeding into a misleading narrative.

“The Wayfarer Defendants and their counsel hope to make Ms. Lively defend the continued sealing of the transcript so they can advance a false narrative that Ms. Lively is afraid of her deposition testimony becoming public, which is entirely untrue and deeply harmful,” the filing stated.

In the broader sanctions motion, Lively’s lawyers took aim at Bryan Freedman directly, describing his approach as a “public relations stunt” that risks prejudicing potential jurors. They are now asking the court for a public reprimand and coverage of attorneys’ fees.

The legal conflict between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is moving steadily toward a March 2026 trial date. Blake Lively has brought forward allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation, which Baldoni has firmly denied.

In an earlier stage of the case, Baldoni’s legal team filed counterclaims against both Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of extortion and defamation. Judge Lewis Liman dismissed those claims, and no amended versions were submitted.

Bryan Freedman, counsel for Baldoni, addressed the deposition process in a June interview with TMZ, saying,

“I'm gonna ask her questions under penalty of perjury, and she's gonna have to provide evidence, and she's gonna have to provide the truth of the stories. We're gonna see how consistent her testimony is with the actual facts of what transpired.”

Freedman emphasized Baldoni’s intent regarding his case with Blake Lively:

“He knows who he is. He knows what he's done. He knows what he hasn't done. And he wants the truth to come out… He’s waiting for his day in court.”
