The Legend of Zelda is a video game series first released on Nintendo in 1986. Since then, the video game has inspired comic books and animated television series, among others. After several years, a live-action film is currently in the works.
Recently, the Nintendo director revealed that English actress Bo Bragason will portray Zelda in the film, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be Link. So let's explore more about the casting and upcoming film, which has reportedly excited the video game fans.
Bo Bragason to feature in The Legend of Zelda live-action movie
The Legend of Zelda live-action movie has found its Zelda and Link. Shigeru Miyamoto, the game director of Nintendo and a film producer, took to X (formerly Twitter) to make an announcement. He wrote,
“I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
The post was accompanied by the first look of both actors in the film's costumes. Bragason started her career as a toddler in the 2007 French film Hidden Love. As an adult, she has appeared in films like Censor, The Radleys, as well as television series like Three Girls, Moving On, The Jetty, and Renegade Nell.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has lent his voice for Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ film Pinocchio. He has also appeared in series like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Son of a Critch, and The Sandman.
The Legend of Zelda is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2027, theatrically. It was earlier supposed to be released in March. This was changed due to issues during production. The film is directed by Wes Ball, who has helmed titles like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, etc. Miyamoto is producing the film with Avi Arad. Nintendo's earlier live-action film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was a major commercial success, earning around $1.361 billion at the box office against a $100 million budget.
Over the years, video game-adapted media has started to see some success as films and television shows, which wasn't the case earlier. The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and A Minecraft Movie have turned out to be profitable ventures.
