Tom Brady may have been happy to greet his fans at the Indy 500, but the sentiment wasn't reciprocated on the other end.
As reported by Us Weekly, Tom Brady was introduced to the crowd at the annual racing event that took place this Sunday, May 25, but the crowd wasn't all that happy to see him. In clips circulating online, fans can be seen booing the retired NFL quarterback. People Magazine has reported that these were likely Indianapolis Colts fans.
Fans have since begun defending him on X, however, such as this one user who penned:
"Brady $500 million. Indianapolis 0."
The comments and remarks didn't end there:
"I was waiting to hear that after he exited the track that they checked the tire pressure and found they were underinflated. Then he could have blamed it on a pit crew person that they just happened to call The Deflator," one user chimed in.
"When you are the GOAT and consistently beat everyone in your sport for 23 years, getting booed only validates your greatness," another opined.
"How immature, they are just jealous," someone else noted.
"You’re showing your ignorance to an American legend. Does it make you feel larger… than your rude brains?" yet another questioned.
Here's how the rest of X is reacting:
"They like we don’t forget the hundred of times you broke our heart," one user quipped.
"He owns Indy!" another exclaimed.
"That's funny. Sign of respect. Everybody knew it was coming like Brady showing up in Kansas City or any other city in the NFL outside of Boston. Lol," someone else penned.
"Its fans as a sports fan you can’t boo Brady best to ever do it guy was unreal got to give him his do," yet another chimed in.
Users were visibly disappointed to learn of fans' behavior towards Tom Brady.
Tom Brady's life post-NFL explored:
Us Weekly has reported that the former New England Patriots quarterback, who currently works as an analyst for Fox Sports, was brought on stage alongside NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. The latter drove a racecar ahead of the race alongside Michael Strahan, a former NFL player.
Tom Brady retired from the NFL in 2023, after which he signed a 10-year contract with Fox, the same network that aired the annual racing event this year, to work as a sports commentator. Back in September 2024, Brady reflected on working as a spectator on the Let's Go! podcast:
"It's been really fun to sit and watch these games from the 50-yard line," he said at the time. "Although I'd much prefer to be on the field playing, because it's a lot more fun down there. But I’m not doing that anymore. But just watching from above and seeing how these guys are performing is pretty cool," he added.
He went on, noting that he's just grateful to be working again:
"Just like everybody else, I try to wake up and try to do my best for the people that matter the most to me. And when you commit to the people like I have in my broadcasting at Fox, I want to do a great job for them and my teammates there. So my life's pretty full. I'm very happy."
For the unversed, Tom Brady is credited with leading heated showdowns against the Indianapolis Colts, mainly back in the early 2000s, when they were AFC rivals.
