Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is shaping up to be one of the most striking reimaginings of Mary Shelley's gothic classic, and the brand new reveals of Mia Goth and Jacob Elordi in the upcoming film only confirms that.
Shared by media outlets across social media, the new look shows a glimpse of Elordi as the Creature, and Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza. The stills shared from the film highlight how del Toro is leaning towards art, tragedy and beauty, just as much as he is leaning towards the horror of the story's premise.
In earlier previews shared of Elordi as the Creature, he is a far cry from the stitched together monstrosity familiar from older adaptations. He appears alabaster and almost ethereal, with grotesque scars and a ragged look. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director described Elordi's character as "a newborn, alabaster creature" with scars that are "beautiful and almost aerodynamic."
In another interview with Empire, the director talked about his vision for Frankenstein and said,
"What I'm trying to do is take the myth and do something with it, but combining elements of Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein without making it just a classical myth of the monster. The best moments in my mind of Frankenstein, of the novel, are yet to be filmed "
As the film nears it's release date, fans are all the more excited to see del Toro's retelling of the story reach screens. With Jacob Elordi in an unprecedented role, and the brilliance of Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac, Frankenstein is shaping up to be one of the year's most anticipated films.
More details about Frankenstein
Guillermo del Toro and Frankenstein go way back. The director has often expressed his desire to make a film based on Mary Shelley's science fiction novel from as early as 2007. Starring Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant, arrogant but dangerous scientist, who creates a dangerous and tragic creature called the Creature, the film explores the monstrous experiment that brings the world down for both the Creature and it's master.
Joining them are Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza, Christoph Waltz as Henrich Harlander, Felix Kammerer as William Frankenstein, Lauren Collins as Claire Frankenstein, Lars Mikkelsen as Captain Anderson, David Bradley as Blind Man, Sofia Galasso as Little Girl, Charles Dance as Leopold Frankenstein, Ralph Ineson as Professor Krempe and Burn Gorman as Fritz.
Production for the film began in Toronto in 2024, and wrapped up in September with extra shoots in Edinburgh and Lincolnshire. Alexandre Desplat has worked on the film's score, who describes it as lyrical and emotional.
Frankenstein will have a limited theatrical release on October 17, 2025, and will be available to stream on Netflix from November 7, 2025.
