"Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family" - Reba McEntire's son Shelby Blackstock pays an emotional tribute to his late brother

Shelby Blackstock is breaking his silence in the wake of his brother Brandon Blackstock's demise.

The son of Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock took to Instagram on Friday, August 8, to pay his respects to his brother, Brandon. The latter succumbed to cancer on Thursday, August 7, at the age of 48.

“Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured. Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son,” Shelby wrote. “Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family — funny, bright, and full of life — and he will be deeply missed.” He said that Brandon “taught me so much, leaving behind countless cherished memories” that he would “hold onto forever.”

He continued,

“For every treasured moment we shared, there are so many more we’ll never get to make together, but I know you’ll still be there,” he wrote. “Every hunt, every flight, and in the everyday moments of life, I’ll feel your presence. And although it may annoy you, you’ll have to watch me do it all just a little better, a little smoother, and —let’s be honest— looking far more handsome than you ever could in the process. 😏.”

He concluded his message saying,

“We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering and celebrating you.”

Reba McEntire and Brandon Blackstock's relationship explored

As reported by People Magazine, Brandon and Shelby have the same father, Narvel Blackstock, who is Reba's former husband. However, Brandon, a talent manager, was born to his father's first wife, Elisa Gayle Ritter.

Brandon was also the former husband of Kelly Clarkson, with whom he shared two kids, River, 11, and Remington, 9. The singer and talent manager eloped back in 2013 and welcomed their first child shortly after. They parted ways in 2022.

Just days before his demise was announced, the songstress and talk show host confirmed that she would be delaying her Las Vegas residency concerts scheduled for this month, citing that her "children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."

As reported by The Daily Mail, just five months before he died, Brandon Blackstock was seen striking a pose for a photograph with his former stepmother and her boyfriend, Rex Linn. The two were at the Houston Rodeo with Shelby also in attendance, and he had on a denim jacket, some blue jeans, and a shirt with patterns on it.

“Family time, the @rodeohouston and corn dogs,” Shelby wrote on Instagram on March 5. “We had a blast in Houston watching @rissablackstock experience her first rodeo [and] being able to spend cherished time with family! Mom’s concert was the icing on the cake!”

Reba, who previously worked on Young Sheldon, has yet to issue a comment about his passing. However, the outlet reports that she was close to Brandon Blackstock and Narvel's other two children even after they divorced.

"Brandon's been my son forever it seems," she told Entertainment Tonight back in 2021. "Although he's my stepson, I still love him like he's my total — my blood."

She echoed the sentiments in an interview with Extra in 2021:

"I love them both, Brandon's my stepson, Kelly's my good friend, and I'm pulling for them both. I hope they're happy and healthy and pull through this... I love them both with all my heart."

Us Weekly has reported that after he parted ways with Kelly, Brandon Blackstock shifted to Montana, where he quietly worked as a rancher.
