Bugonia is the fourth collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone. The black absurdist comedy is written by Will Tracy and is an adaptation of Save the Green Planet!, which is a 2003 South Korean flick. The film had its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and is slated to release theatrically on October 24, 2025. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

Two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.

Ahead of its release, the makers have started its off-beat marketing. Let's get into the details.

Bugonia marketing kickstarts: street graffiti and warning website

As Bugonia is nearing its release date, the makers have kick-started its marketing. This includes a conspiracy website called 'humanresistancehq.com' which consists of evidence of Michelle Fuller (played by Emma Stone) being an alien. Fuller is the CEO of a powerful pharmaceutical company.

The opening text of this website reads, 'Welcome to the headquarters of the human resistance,' with Fuller being labeled as the 'top suspected Andromedan.' It further lists several physical signs of her being an alien. This includes narrow feet, thin cuticles, slight overbite, and high hair density. The website also mentions details research and findings about Andromeda.

Besides this, the makers of Bugonia have also put out hoardings of Stone's Michelle Fuller as the face of the company, Auxolith. It was then painted with graffiti that read 'andromedan filth' and 'join human resistance.'

The film is produced by Emma Stone, Miky Lee, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Ari Aster, and Lars Knudsen. Lanthimos and Stone have earlier worked on films like Poor Things, Kind of Kindness, and The Favorite.

In an interview with THR, Stone spoke about her rapport with the director. She said,

“It’s clear that I love working with Yorgos and I love the material he’s drawn to and the characters he explores. What it ends up feeling like is a really comforting and safe environment to explore and feel as free as possible becuase you know these people. I know everybody says that ‘we’re a family’ thing but it really does feel like that.”

She further spoke about the film.

“There’s so much that’s happening that’s reflective of this time in our world and it’s told in a way that’s really fascinating and moving, funny and fucked up, and alive.”

Bugonia will release on October 24, 2025.
