Caroline Rhea, in an exclusive interview with People Magazine, talked about a revelation she had recently experienced while watching the iconic character of Hilda Spellman, whom she played on screen. Rhea said that in her recent watch, she realized how much her voice had changed over the past decades.
In the popular TV show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sabrina Spellman was played by Melissa Joan Hart. Rhea played the character of Hilda Spellman from 1996 to 2003 across six seasons, alongside Beth Broderick, who played the other aunt, Zelda Hillman, both of whom were often seen advising Sabrina on her many quests.
More from Caroline Rhea's interview, as the actress reveals more about the revelation she had while watching the Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Caroline Rhea sat down for an interview with People Magazine ahead of the return of another much-loved TV show, Phineas and Ferb, where she voices the character of Linda Flynn-Feltcher, who is the mother of Candace and Phineas, as well as the stepmother to Ferb. The show returns after ten years, causing the Sydney to Max actress to reflect on how much her voice has changed over the years. She said:
"It's weird that your voice ages."
According to the outlet, Caroline Rhea further admitted that she recently had the opportunity to binge-watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch while on a flight to Hawaii, causing her to have a moment of revelation in which she realized that her voice has deepened as she has aged. She said:
"I was watching Sabrina … and I was literally like, 'Was I 15 when I made this show?' And then I was like, 'Oh, OK.' Now, I feel like my voice is much deeper than it was."
She further added that she is using her deep voice to relate to the older version of Lina Flynn Feltcher, who she has been tasked with voicing. She said:
"I try to make it the same sound as Linda Flynn-Fletcher, older."
Caroline Rhea also addressed her absence from the seventh and final season of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, calling it something that was rather "weird." She said:
"So I know it was weird. And sometimes when I watch season 7, I’m like, ‘Well, this is very weird that we’re not there.’ It’s so messed up because my [whole stand-up routine] is called ‘I Identify as a Witch!’"
Caroline Rhea, in a previous interview with People Magazine, revealed in much it means to her to know that Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a show that has positively impacted so many women. She said:
"You know what I love seeing? It's so kind when someone comes up and says, 'I grew up watching you.' I have such — when I see little girls that, well, they're not little girls, but Taylor Swift loved Sabrina."
She further added:
"She loved Sabrina, she [Pink] loved that show. So, I'm literally gushing over Pink and she's like, 'You don't understand what your show meant to me. And it's just a generation of women. I really think in music, they're so strong and impressive, and I think of them as like little Sabrina watchers."
Phineas and Ferb, which premiered on Disney+ earlier this month, on June 5, once again follows the adventures of the two brothers, along with the fan favorite character of Perry the Platypus.
