Casper Kelly’s horror film Buddy casts Topher Grace alongside Cristin Milioti

Cristin Milioti may have found a new buddy in Topher Grace, who will start alongside her in Casper Kelly’s upcoming horror film.

Titled Buddy, the film comes from the writer behind many animated and comedy projects, like Stroker and Hoop, Squidbillies, and more. Kelly also co-wrote the script for Adult Swim's comedic horror TV movie, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell, and wrote Nicholas Cage's audacious 2018 film, Mandy. He contributed to the Cheddar Goblin segment that plays on TV.

Kelly has co-written the script for the Topher Grace-starrer with Jamie King, and is directing the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the crew is currently filming the project in Ohio. The exact plot details have not been revealed as of yet. However, the film is said to be a "new experience in horror," as per the outlet.

Casper Kelly's past work is filled with creative projects that challenge the long-held notions of the horror genre. His 2014 horror short, Too Many Cooks, illustrates it even better.

The film sets its horrifying slasher-adjacent premise in the setting of good-humored old-school sitcoms from yesteryears. It flips how we perceive similar projects that have been staples of American pop culture and makes it surreal.

Based on Kelly's similar projects, Buddy seems like an exciting affair for horror fans who are looking for something that moves away from the genre conventions. His latest has been labeled as a horror project, and its IMDb logline currently reads:

"A group of kids confront spooky events that test their courage and friendship."

Still, we are yet to receive an official report on the plot details. Based on what has been revealed, Low Spark Films (Tyler Davidson and Drew Sykes) is producing and co-financing this project.

BoulderLight Pictures, which recently brought Sophie Thatcher's Companion to the screens, will also produce, with J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules handling the project. Tracy Rosenblum joins them as an executive producer. Substance and Sipur Studios are also backing this project as co-producers on Buddy, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
