Claudia Cardinale’s career began after she won a beauty contest in Tunisia. She was scouted by an Italian producer, Franco Cristaldi, who proposed an extended contract. Initially, she was not sure about acting but she took it and began to act in Italian films.

Her first performances made her famous. Movies such as Rocco and His Brothers (1960), Girl with a Suitcase (1961), and by Federico Fellini (1963) made her one of the most popular actresses. These acts demonstrated that she could play dramatic and emotional roles.

Claudia Cardinale also became well-known outside Italy by the mid-1960s. She featured in Hollywood films such as The Pink Panther (1963). In 1968, she achieved global fame by featuring in the Once upon a Time in the West by Sergio Leone.

The filmography of Claudia Cardinale is stretched to over 150 titles. She collaborated with some of the most esteemed directors, among whom are Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, and Werner Herzog. She even traveled between drama, comedy, and action.

The Leopard (1963), The Professionals (1966), Il giorno della civetta (1968) and Fitzcarraldo by Herzog (1982) are some of her best works. In the case of Il giorno della civetta, she won the David di Donatello. Her functions made her relevant for decades.

In addition to acting, Cardinale was a proponent of women's rights. She was a UNESCO goodwill ambassador and a spokesperson for gender equality and the independence of women. She was awarded lifetime awards by film festivals in Venice and Berlin, which reflected her overall influence.
