Clue is a black comedy-drama mystery film that came out on December 13, 1985, by Paramount Pictures. The film is helmed by Jonathan Lynn and was adapted from the namesake video game. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

Clue finds six colorful dinner guests gathered at the mansion of their host, Mr. Boddy – who turns up dead after his secret is exposed: He was blackmailing all of them. With the killer among them, the guests and Boddy’s chatty butler must suss out the culprit before the body count rises.

On its 40th anniversary, the film is getting a re-release on the big screen.

Clue is returning to the theaters

Paramount Pictures has decided to re-release Clue on the big screen on its 40th anniversary. The studio announced that the film will be released theatrically between August 24 and August 26, 2025. But there's a twist, as each screening will showcase a different type of ending, which is in the same line as when it came out in 1985.

A new poster has also been released to celebrate the occasion by Cinemark Theaters. Audiences can book their tickets on the websites of Cinemark and AMC Theatres. Clue is yet another film from the 1980s-90s that is getting a re-release. Another one is John Hughes' The Breakfast Club, which will be released in September.

Jonathan Lynn wrote the screenplay of Clue; the story is by Lynn and John Landis. It was produced by Debra Hill under the banner of Guber-Peters Company, PolyGram Pictures, and Debra Hill Productions. Here's a list of its cast members:

  • Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock
  • Tim Curry as Wadsworth
  • Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White
  • Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum
  • Michael McKean as Mr. Green
  • Martin Mull as Colonel Mustard
  • Lesley Ann Warren as Miss Scarlet
  • Colleen Camp as Yvette

It was made on a budget of $15 million and ended up grossing $14.6 million in the country. The film also met with positive critical response and, over the years, has gained a cult following. It was also adapted into a stage play in 2017. There have also been talks about a remake that has been a development hell for several years. Last year, Shay Hatten's name was announced as the scriptwriter for the remake. But since then, there has been no update about the same.
