Henry Golding can credit A Simple Favor as one of the roles that boosted his trajectory to international fame and success.

Now, as he promotes the sequel nearly 7 years later as a household name, he made an appearance on the Today show, where he spoke about his experience on set. When addressing co-stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick directly, Golding shared,

"Coming back and filming with the girls again was like putting on a worn-in pair of [sneakers] and going for a casual run. There’s no pre-jitters of a new production or meeting new actors or a director — you just go straight back into the relationship you had, and you know all your characters so well."

The film is set to release on Prime Video on May 1.

Henry Golding compares his experience working on both films

Golding’s character Sean was Lively’s ex-husband in the film and served as (in his words) “just the punch bag between" Lively and Kendrick’s characters throughout the film. Golding added that Sean "was just the guy that they would kick and he’d take it.”

But, in the soon-to-be-released sequel Another Simple Favor, Golding plays a completely different version of the character in what turned out to be a very fun process for the actor.

"The guy who came back, he’s had five or six years to mull and have everything soak into him. He’s hit the bottle. He’s sort of lost his inhibitions and just decided to give back as much as he takes."

Golding continued by showering praise on director Paul Feig and the give-and-take nature of their working relationship,

"I had a lot of fun creating it with Paul. I was like, 'What do you think if we make [Sean] sort of the opposite of what he was and create something fun with it?' And that's what he did. He's the best collaborator."

Another Simple Favor film follows blogger Stephanie Smothers (played by Kendrick), who strikes up a friendship with a woman named Emily (played by Lively) after meeting her through her son's school. While the first movie focuses on Stephanie's efforts to solve Emily's mysterious disappearance, it ends with the latter’s arrest for murder. The sequel sees Emily released from jail, upon which she invites Stephanie to attend her lavish Italian wedding, under suspicious and potentially life-threatening pretences.

Henry Golding’s next project will be another sequel, slated for later this year, The Old Guard 2. It is an American superhero film directed by Victoria Mahoney and starring Charlize Theron.
