Entrepreneur and record executive Dame Dash seems to be in some legal trouble. The lawsuit is related to the 2019 film Dear Frank, which stars Keara Schroeder, Lil Durk, Claudia Jordan, and others. The film was directed and produced by Canadian filmmaker Josh Webber. Although Dash was not involved in the movie, he laid claim to it.

Following that, Webber and the production company filed a defamation suit against him. Dame Dash was asked to pay $805,000 in 2022 for failing to meet certain deadlines and for his reluctance to mediate the issue.

According to an exclusive report by AllHipHop, the record executive allegedly made negative comments about Webber on the podcast, Earn Your Leisure. In 2025, a default judgment worth $4 million was ordered in the case after Webber filed another lawsuit in April 2024.

Dame Dash was ordered to submit documents related to his businesses to the court on July 10, which he and Poppington LLC failed to do. As a result, he had been summoned to a Manhattan court on July 31 at 10 a.m., failing which he could be arrested.

Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger noted that this was an act of not complying with the court order and delaying the process. The documents were required by the court to auction Dash’s assets and settle the lawsuit. The report notes that if he turns in the documents before July 31, he may not be required to visit the court. The U.S. Marshal will be in charge of conducting the auction.

What did Dame Dash say about Josh Webber on the podcast?

Josh Webber alleged that after Dash made negative comments about him on the podcast, he faced hurdles in his business. According to Vibe, in the podcast, Dame Dash said:

“I had a judgment. And I knew this d*ckhead Chris Brown and Josh Webber and Muddy Waters… Chris Brown the lawyer. I went through four trials with the same lawyer… What I lost was defamation because these guys trigger me and steal my sh*t… you think there is freedom of speech, it’s really not.”

After the $4 million judgment was announced, the judge ordered that Dash’s ownership in several enterprises had to be sold. Poppington LLC was instructed to turn over copyright documents, which Webber’s legal representatives claimed were not successful. After the auction, if there remains anything, it would be given to Dame Dash.

The record executive was initially involved in the making of Dear Frank, but he lost his job for allegedly turning up drunk on the set.

This wasn’t the first time Dame Dash found himself in legal trouble. In 2019, a lawsuit filed by author Edwyna Brooks alleged that Dash made a film based on her book series without seeking permission. Dash was initially ordered to pay $78,289 to Brooks in 2020, which he failed to pay.

He also filed a lawsuit, which turned unsuccessful. The record executive allegedly didn’t share information about his financial holdings. Eventually, the amount that he owed was approximately $100,000. He was subsequently ordered to liquidate his assets and pay what he owed to Edwyna Brooks.
