David Archuleta is thinking big for 2026. Over twenty years after competing on Star Search, the singer is ready to jump back in for the Netflix reboot, this time with the option to mentor or judge rising stars.

In his chat with TMZ on Dec. 11, the Crush crooner reveals he's interested in joining the forthcoming reboot, set to air on Jan. 20, 2026.

"I'm intrigued to see what, how they reboot it after such a run of singing competitions and how they probably might modify it, you know, after we've been through American Idol and The Voice and everything. It'll be interesting to see what happens."

David Archuleta went on:

"It's more of like a variety show. Well, America's Got Talent's like that. So it'll be interesting how they take their Star Search spin on it."

The singer added that he's "up for it" when asked if he's interested in serving as a judge. He continued:

"Judging is a scary word in my head... But it'd be fun to do. I mean, I had Hilary Duff as a guest judge when I was on — so I was excited when Hilary came on."

The A Little Too Not Over You hitmaker told the outlet that it would be a "full-circle moment" for him if he participates, adding:

"I was in semifinals with two other singers who are still doing their thing. I was with Tori Kelly and with Joel James so it's kind of funny to see."

David Archuleta on Star Search vs. today's talent shows: "It Was More Fancy"

David Archuleta shared about a chat with Joel, whom he praised as an amazing singer-songwriter.

"She's like, 'Can you believe we've made it this long? Not many people can say they've been working at it as long as we have and still doing it.' I'm like, 'You're right. We're getting old,' so it's just kind of weird that we're still here after 22 years."

When asked how he thinks the Star Search differs from its genre rivals, American Idol, America's Got Talent, and more, David Archuleta answered:

"I feel like the voting was pretty fast. It happened pretty quickly, well, at least while I was on there. I felt like it was more fancy, in a way, like it wasn't as laid-back casual. It felt more like a beauty competition, where it just feels formal."

The Something 'Bout Love singer continued:

"But I don't know. Maybe it's because I was inexperienced, and I was 12 years old, and I had no idea really what was going on half the time. I was like, 'Oh, I guess I gotta dress up 'cause I'm gonna be on TV.' So my parents put me on this button-up shirt and church slacks. And then I got more casual on American Idol."

Meanwhile, David Archuleta is currently embarking on his holiday tour, My Only Wish, across multiple venues. On Dec. 18 and 19, he will serenade his fans at The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles.
