Country star Ronnie McDowell’s son provided an update on his father’s recovery after he suffered a ‘mini stroke’ on-stage on Saturday, June 21. While sharing that McDowell was being discharged from the hospital on June 23, his son, Ronnie McDowell Jr., wrote on Facebook,
“Dad is in good spirits today.”
While providing an update on McDowell’s health, his son expressed gratitude to the hospital staff where his father was taken. He wrote,
“They took him to the Reading hospital. I will say this, that every single person at the hospital was so incredibly nice and helpful. The Doctors told him that he will need surgery in the next few weeks.”

While emphasizing that McDowell’s condition had improved, his son explained,
“They do want him to take it easy but they said that he can perform and workout in the next few days. He was so happy about that. When he got out, he wanted to go to his favorite Italian restaurant. We are all heading home now…Thank you Jesus for saving my Dad.”
Ronnie McDowell’s son explained what happened on-stage with the singer
Ronnie McDowell was performing on June 21 at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Oley, Pennsylvania, as part of his 2025 concert tour.
Ronnie McDowell Jr. explained that while performing, he observed his dad slurring the words to lyrics he knew by heart. Sharing that it was at that moment he realized that his father wasn’t well, McDowell Jr. wrote,
“He did suffer a mini stroke the other day on stage here in Pennsylvania. I knew something wasn't right as I had his vocals in my in ear monitor and I could hear him slurring his words and forgetting the words to his songs that he has sang for many years.”
McDowell Jr. said that he brought his father offstage to examine if everything was alright, and added,
“After a few minutes I had Steve to play a solo while I took my Dad off side stage to ask him how he was feeling. He told me that he wasn't ok, and thats not how my strong Dad talks, he said that he thought that he might be having a stroke.”

Describing the sequence of events which led him to call an ambulance for the hospital, McDowell’s son continued,
“I immediately took him to the Sprinter for him to cool off. I asked the incredible promoter to bring over an EMT. He was incredibly helpful. He and I agreed that Dad was having a stroke by his actions. I immediately had our friend Diana call an ambulance.”
He went on to express gratitude towards McDowell’s band as well as his fans from all over the world.
Meanwhile, Tyler Dean McDowell, another son of the country star, also took to social media to share updates about his father. While McDowell was still in the hospital, Tyler Dean wrote,
“Ronnie Dean & I are in the room with Dad. He’s talking to us, and we’re waiting to do the MRI.”
Sharing another update, Tyler Dean posted,
“2nd update: Brought Dad some Popcorners and a Kombucha (snacks he likes). Ronnie Dean brought his comfy shoes, favorite brush, and Vietnam hat. Dad was very excited about all this—like a kid in a candy store. Figured y’all could use a lil’ levity.”
Finally, Tyler Dean wrote that Ronnie McDowell was on his way home from the hospital, and updates from him or his brother on McDowell’s health would follow.
