Jurassic World is a franchise that reintroduced audiences to dinosaurs in the 1990s. It started in 1993 with Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, which was followed by several installments. The film showcases the revival of the ancient creatures through their DNA.
It appears that this piece of fiction might turn into reality. Recently, the CEO of Colossal Biosciences spoke that his company might actually bring back an animal that has been extinct for several centuries. This news will surely excite fans who are fascinated by the pre-human reptiles. So let us look into the details and find out if fiction will soon become a reality or not.
Colossal Biosciences’ CEO reveals Jurassic World style de-extinction might be possible

Ben Lamm, who is the CEO of Colossal Bioscience, recently spoke to Screen Rant, where he made a revelation. He said that his company is just three years away from reviving the Woolly that has been extinct for ages. They have been able to do it by using the science of Jurassic World. Lamm said that if things go as planned, the first calf might be out by 2028.
"Our goal is to have our first calves by 2028. By the end of 2026, we'll have our embryos. It's a 22 month gestation. Separately, our animal operations team [is] working on northern white rhinos, southern rhinos, and elephants [with] what's called OPO pickup–basically artificial insemination–which helps for conservation."
He added:
"But as long as all of that works, then I think we'll be on track for 2028 for our first birth. And that seems to be working. So right now our goal is still the end of 2028. Could it slip? Yeah. But if it does, I think it slips months, not decades. So yeah, things are going pretty well."
His comment also hints that the company might also be working on other extinct animals. Colossal Bioscience is considered to be one of the world's first companies dealing with de-extinction. Earlier this year, the company was in the news for bringing back the dire wolves through genetic engineering and other technologies.
In the first Jurassic Park, dinosaurs were brought back to life through their fossilized DNA in mosquitoes. However, the DNA goes through a mutation that no one expected.
Meanwhile, in the film space, Jurassic World Rebirth, is the latest installment in the franchise. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and it will be released on July 2, 2025.
