Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond film targets gen-Z 007 with Elordi, Holland, Dickinson in sight

James Bond is a character who has transcended decades and generations to be loved by everyone. It started out as a literary character in Ian Fleming's books and eventually became a part of popular culture. Recently, we learned that the franchise has finally found a new director, and that's Denis Villeneuve.

Ever since Daniel Craig stepped down as 007 in No Time To Die, there has also been a search for the next James Bond. Now, several new names have been thrown in the mix that might reflect the Gen-Z audience.

Several actors on Amazon's wishlist for the next James Bond film

Right after Denis Villeneuve was named as the new director of the upcoming James Bond film, there was another update about the franchise. Variety has reported that Amazon MGM Studios is on the lookout for the next actor to portray the 007 agent. The age group of these actors hints that the makers might be targeting the Gen-Z audience.

Variety has reported that the studio has a wishlist of names comprising British actors below the age of 30. These include Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson.

The studio is planning to release the film sometime in 2028. They are also looking for a writer to pen the script. Earlier, directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Edgar Wright, Jonathan Nolan, Edward Berger, and Paul King were also in the race to direct. Some reports also stated that Jonathan's brother, Christopher Nolan, was under consideration to direct the next Bond film.

After Villeneuve was announced as the director of the franchise, he gave an official statement:

"Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”

In February 2025, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson transferred the creative control of the James Bond franchise to Amazon MGM Studios; the two retain financial oversight.
