French actress Brigitte Bardot passed away at 91. The actress was known to be a pioneer for women in French cinema and an outspoken activist for animals later in her career.
A representative from her foundation, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the protection of animals, told The Associated Press that she passed away at her home in southern France. Describing her, they said she was a "world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation”.
The actress, who was later dubbed a sex symbol and the pride of France, came to fame in 1956 with her role in And God Created Woman. Though she rarely visited her acting career in public, she once said in an interview in 2007,
"I don’t know. I think that I arrived and left at the right time. My wild and free side unsettled some, and unwedged others.”
When asked how she came to be an icon of French cinema. She worked on internationally produced movies like The Truth in 1960 and Viva Maria! in 1965; however mostly stayed away from the Hollywood industry. Brigitte Bardot also recorded around 60 pop songs in the 1960s and 1970s with French singer Serge Gainsbourg, with whom she also had an affair.

Brigitte Bardot's son
Bardot was married four times in her life, with her first husband, Roger Vadim, in 1952. However, it was her second marriage with Jacques Charrier in 1959 through which she had her one and only child, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier.
Nicolas was born on January 11, 1960. But the actress could not connect with her child. In her memoir, she wrote that she was “not made to be a mother," adding that her unborn child was like a “cancerous tumour.” The entire relationship between the couple was unstable as Jacques Charrier suffered from depression and the actress had an affair with Sami Frey during the filming of La Vérité, while suffering from the baby blue.
The couple eventually divorced on January 30, 1963, and Charrier got custody of their son. He also sued her after the “hurtful remarks” in her memoir and received $36,200 in damages.
However, eventually Bridgitte Bardot reconciled with her son, who lives in Norway. She also got the chance to meet her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Jacques passed away this September, a few short months before his ex-wife.
