Yes, Camila Mendes and Charles Melton did share a relationship.
Whispers of the couple being together began circulating in September 2018. Back then, E! News reported that the actors were seen kissing during a movie outing in Vancouver. As one source told the outlet,
"Camila sat next to Charles and leaned on his shoulder, as the lights were dimming, my friend saw them kiss!"
The couple later confirmed their relationship on Instagram, though those posts were eventually deleted. In December 2019, it was reported that the couple decided to take a break. A source shared with E! News,
"Cami and Charles have been separated for a few months now, they are taking a break from their relationship. Their relationship escalated very quickly and they are taking time now to focus on their work and themselves."
The source also explained that no dramatic incident led to the split, adding that both Mendes and Melton had been "busy and overwhelmed" with professional commitments. The pair reunited in June 2021, but the reconciliation was short-lived. Meanwhile, Camila Mendes has since moved forward. Recently, she announced her engagement to Rudy Mancuso, her co-star in Música.
Camila Mendes and Rudy Mancuso announced their engagement after surprise celebration

Mendes' representative confirmed to People Magazine that Rudy Mancuso proposed on Oct. 24. Mendes went into the evening thinking she was attending a small birthday gathering for her producing partner, Rachel Matthews. Instead, it turned into the moment Mancuso asked her to marry him.
“Rudy proposed to her in front of their family and friends,” a source shared.
The night didn’t end there.
“Around 11 p.m., they were still celebrating, so they went to Glen Powell’s tracksuit and tequila-themed birthday party,” the insider said.
Their relationship first drew attention in November 2022 when Camila Mendes posted a photo of Rudy Mancuso kissing her on the cheek. They made it official on the following Valentine’s Day. Mendes captioned the post, "Meu valentine te amo so much," beside a photo of the two kissing.
Later, the couple shared that they met during the making of Música. Camila Mendes recalled her screen test and the moment they first interacted:
"We have this two-minute silent footage... there's this exciting energy and this giddiness."
Rudy Mancuso echoed her memory:
“It's safe to say there was chemistry from the moment we met, and it certainly was visible onscreen.”
He noted that the intensity surprised them both. Camila Mendes agreed, saying they “just understood things about each other that I think it's hard for other people to understand.”
“It worked out because we were getting to know each other off-set... And so there was this natural kind of charismatic chemistry,” added Mendes.
Inside Camila Mendes and Charles Melton’s three-year love story

In 2024, People Magazine reported that Camila Mendes had reflected on her past relationship with Charles Melton, her co-star on Riverdale and her partner on and off for roughly three years. Mendes discussed the relationship during an appearance on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, explaining how their time together overlapped with the rhythm of the show itself.
“We dated for a year and then broke up for about a year and then got back together for about a year,” she said, noting that the relationship started in 2018 after Melton joined the series in season 2.
Their second chapter lasted “like seven months.” She explained that the pandemic played a significant role in their reconnection.
“It’s ‘cause it was COVID, that was a big catalyst. We broke up and then [it was] COVID and then the show was down for a long time so there was that big separation,” Mendes added.
When they eventually returned to shoot season 6, both were seeing other people. Because their characters also had romantic arcs, Mendes said the initial days after their breakup were difficult.
“Obviously, right when it happened, it’s hard and it’s emotional, it’s the worst,” she shared.
She described how life and storylines seemed to intertwine by coincidence.
“Any time we started to hook up off set and knew that something was brewing, our characters would start dating. But they didn’t know. No one knew. The writers just would naturally make it happen.”
Mendes concluded by saying that the breakup that ended things was “mutual.”
