Fijian musician and singer-songwriter George Brooks Veikoso, commonly known as Fiji, died at 55 on July 23, 2025, in Fiji's capital, Suva, with his family members by his side, according to Hawaii News Now. Fiji, who rose to significant fame after his album Born and Raised, which topped several music charts, eventually made him a well-established musician and sensation. While the specific reason behind his death is still unknown, as per PMN News, his family confirmed that he had been experiencing health issues for a long time and was also suffering from gout.

While Fiji faced mobility issues as he used a wheelchair for several years because of a medical condition, that did not impact or affect his vocal performance. Fiji, besides his numerous hit songs, also co-wrote the theme song for the NBC drama TV series Baywatch Hawaii, which starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, and others.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Fiji, who had a crucial role in popularizing Island Rhythm & Blues and Polynesian Reggae, according to the Economic Times, kept his personal life away from public attention. As per certain reports, he was married and also had children. While Fiji was not that keen on sharing much about his family publicly, he did post a picture of his daughter, Adi Arieta Lutunauca kuualohapoinaole Veikoso, and other family members on his official Facebook page.

However, his Facebook page mostly contains posts related to music and culture. Fiji also shared inspirational messages instead of posting about his family life. Despite his global success, the Sweet Darlin' hitmaker frequently expressed his gratitude for his family as well as his Fijian roots and communicated how thankful he was for everything.

"(His passing) really hurt me because it just felt like I couldn’t call on my mentor anymore, and he’s not there anymore. It made me so sad to know that he’s gone, but his legacy is so big that I know his legacy will carry on forever. He’s so special and he’s so loved by all of the artists of my generation, who loved him and cared about him and who he cared for... he was a mentor for all of us."
